Bullying, both directly and through digital media, remains a serious problem among adolescents and is associated with high levels of moral disengagement, a cognitive mechanism that allows individuals to engage in harmful actions without feeling guilty. One factor thought to reduce moral disengagement is self-control. This study aims to test the effectiveness of self-control psychoeducation in reducing moral disengagement in junior high school (SMP) students. The study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study participants were 20 students aged 12–15 years who had moderate to high levels of moral disengagement. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of the Moral Disengagement Scale (MDS), which consists of 19 items with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.883. The intervention, a self-control psychoeducation program, was implemented in one 120-minute session covering impulse control, emotional regulation, identification of behavioral triggers, and the application of self-control in social and digital interactions. Data analysis used a paired-samples t-test. The results showed a significant difference between moral disengagement scores before and after the intervention (t = 2.236; p = 0.038). The average moral disengagement score decreased from 55.25 in the pre-test to 54.25 in the post-test. The effect size (Cohen's d = 0.50) indicated a moderate effect. These findings indicate that self-control psychoeducation is effective in reducing moral disengagement in junior high school adolescents and has the potential to be a school-based preventive strategy to reduce the tendency for aggressive behavior and bullying.
