Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using the Educaplay app on students’ interest in learning and scientific reasoning skills in science classes at Sitolu Ori Public Junior High School 2. This study employs a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method through a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population consisted of all eighth-grade students at Sitolu Ori State Junior High School 2, with a sample of 48 students comprising Class VIII-A as the experimental group and Class VIII-B as the control group. Data were collected using a learning interest questionnaire and a scientific reasoning ability test. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, an independent samples t-test, and an N-Gain test. The results of the study indicate that the use of the Educaplay application is effective in enhancing students’ learning interest and scientific reasoning skills. This is evidenced by the results of the independent-samples t-test, which revealed significant differences between the experimental and control classes in learning interest (Sig. = 0.035 < 0.05) and scientific reasoning skills (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, the results of the N-Gain test in the experimental class showed that the improvement in scientific reasoning skills fell into the moderate category. Thus, the Educaplay app is effective as a learning medium for enhancing students’ interest in learning and scientific reasoning skills in science education.
