Recovery of awareness is an important indicator of patient safety after general anesthesia. Delayed recovery may increase postoperative complications and prolong the patient’s stay in the Recovery Room. Several patient-related factors, including age, gender, duration of surgery, ASA physical status, and airway management method, may influence recovery time. This study aimed to describe patient characteristics and recovery of consciousness after general anesthesia at dr. R. Goeteng Taroenadibrata Hospital, Purbalingga. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted involving 152 postoperative patients selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation sheets, monitoring devices, and timers, then analyzed using univariate descriptive analysis. The results showed that most patients were adults (67.1%), female (63.2%), underwent moderate-duration surgery (57.9%), had ASA Physical Status I (49.3%), and used Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) for airway management (71.7%). A total of 65.1% of patients regained consciousness within 15 minutes after anesthesia, with faster recovery observed among adults, females, moderate-duration surgery patients, and ASA I patients. In conclusion, most patients experienced rapid recovery of consciousness after general anesthesia, with these characteristics associated with faster postoperative recovery.
