Abstract

Effective communication is an essential factor in improving patient safety, particularly among post-anesthesia patients. One of the communication methods recommended in healthcare settings is the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) framework. This study aimed to describe the level of knowledge of anesthesiology nursing students regarding SBAR communication for post-anesthesia patients at Universitas Harapan Bangsa. The research employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 122 respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability and were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a good level of knowledge (92 students; 75.4%), followed by a fair level (28 students; 23.0%) and a poor level (2 students; 1.6%). A good level of knowledge was more frequently observed among female respondents, students aged 20 years, and those from Class D. Overall, anesthesiology nursing students demonstrated a good level of knowledge regarding SBAR communication for post-anesthesia patients. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining and strengthening SBAR communication training to support patient safety and improve the quality of anesthesiology nursing care.
