Abstract

Conduct disorder is a common behavioral disorder among school-age children, and parental perception may influence recognition and management of symptoms. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parental perception and conduct disorder symptoms among students at SD Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. A quantitative cross-sectional design involved 104 parents of students in grades I–V, selected through total sampling from 264 parents. Parental perception was assessed using a 10-item questionnaire, while conduct disorder symptoms were measured using the Conduct Problems subscale of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Data were analyzed using the Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact Test because chi-square assumptions were not met. Results showed that 88.5% of parents had a positive perception of conduct disorder symptoms, while 76.0% of students were classified as normal on the Conduct Problems subscale. Statistical analysis yielded p = 0.328 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between parental perception and conduct disorder symptoms. Abnormal symptoms were more prevalent among children whose parents had negative perceptions (25.0%) than positive perceptions (10.9%). These findings suggest that conduct disorder symptoms may involve factors beyond parental perception and support multi-informant screening involving teachers and children.
